For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Dodge Charger have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The BMW 4 Series Coupe doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Charger are reminded to check the back seat. The 4 Series Coupe doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Charger. But it costs extra on the 4 Series Coupe.

Both the Charger and the 4 Series Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Dodge Charger weighs 1819 to 2161 pounds more than the BMW 4 Series Coupe. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Dodge’s powertrain warranty covers the Charger 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than BMW covers the 4 Series Coupe. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the 4 Series Coupe ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 7 times as many Dodge dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Charger’s warranty.

The Charger Daytona R/T Coupe’s standard electric motors produce 241 more horsepower (496 vs. 255) and 109 lbs.-ft. more torque (404 vs. 295) than the 430i Coupe’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid. The Charger Daytona R/T Coupe’s electric motors produce 110 more horsepower (496 vs. 386) and 6 lbs.-ft. more torque (404 vs. 398) than the M440i Coupe’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid. The Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s standard electric motors produce 284 more horsepower (670 vs. 386) and 229 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 398) than the M440i Coupe’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid.

The Charger can travel with zero emissions for 216 to 308 miles (dependent on model). The 4 Series Coupe can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Dodge Charger higher (10 out of 10) than the BMW 4 Series Coupe (6 to 7). This means the Charger produces up to 12.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 4 Series Coupe every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the Charger has larger standard tires than the 4 Series Coupe (245/55R18 vs. 225/45R18). The Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 4 Series Coupe (F:305/35R20 & R:325/35R20 vs. F:225/40R19 & R:255/35R19).

The Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 4 Series Coupe’s optional 40 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Charger offers optional 20-inch wheels. The 4 Series Coupe’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The Charger has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The 4 Series Coupe doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe handles at .99 G’s, while the M440i xDrive Coupe pulls only .93 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skid pad test.

The front grille of the Charger uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The 4 Series Coupe doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Charger’s optional easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The 4 Series Coupe doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Charger’s standard Keyless Enter-N-Go allow you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Comfort Go standard on the 4 Series Coupe only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the car.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Charger to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The 4 Series Coupe doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

Both the Charger and the 4 Series Coupe have standard heated front seats. The Charger also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the 4 Series Coupe.

The Charger has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the 4 Series Coupe.
